Forest Safety Instruction provides hands-on chainsaw safety training in the classroom and field. We offer our services to a wide spectrum of industries with a goal of teaching practical and technical skills while promoting positive attitudes toward safety in the workplace and at home. Nathan Stanford has had the privilege to effectively train thousands of people building confidence and skill in a systematic approach to safety through training.

Growing up in northern Wisconsin and Minnesota, Nathan has over 20 years of experience as a chainsaw safety instructor with a background in industrial safety management. During that time, Nathan served in a 10-year apprenticeship with progressive leaders in the industry. FSI has also worked with others that are at the top of their profession in education, forest management, safety training, and conservation. He has enjoyed being a part of adult education for chainsaw training to help individuals and organizations manage their trees safely.
Took storm damage training in 2005 and again in 2019 with the state of Missouri.
US Forest Service “C” certified trainer evaluator from 2010 to current. Every three years Nathan is re-evaluated and re-certified.
Certified trainer with SAWW (Safety and Wood Workers Training) from 2011 to current. Every year is re-evaluated and re-certified.
Working with OSHA rules and regulations and ANSI Standards
With FSI is also Holly McKnight in an administrative role and as a team member. Currently she is training with Nathan as an apprentice. She recently certified as a “B” Sawyer/Bucker by the US Forest Service and is instrumental in helping with instruction and demonstration in class. Holly is there for the students and enjoys sharing her experience as a Minnesota Master Naturalist, a North Country Trail chapter president, and as a trainee for FSI.
